Be An Eco-Consultant in Your Community

This strikes me as possibly being the modern equivalent of those ads in the back of magazines saying you can make $3000 a month, you send them the $10 and get back a letter describing how to set up a business selling people on making $3000 a month. Anyway, "Ge A Green Irene" has blanketed the Internet lately with advertising extolling the business opportunity of greening our world one home (and office) at a time.

They say: Our Eco-Consultants are independent business women and men who work from their own home or office and are distributors of our eco-consulting services and an array of green products. They are a direct sales company that lets people set up part time or full time businesses. The main product is a "$99 Green Home Makeover conducted in about 60-90 minutes and covers such topics as energy conservation upgrades, energy efficient lighting replacements, water conservation and purity tools, indoor air quality improvements and harmful chemical reduction in the home." There's also a business version of the product lineup.

You'd be working on your own time setting your own hours and being a small business owner. You can hold "Go Green" parties which sounds like the modern day equivalent to Tupperware parties. You don't own inventory, instead the Irene mothership sends directly to your customers. Obviously there is more to this than the makeover, but the makeover is simply the foot in the door through which they sell other products. The eco-consultant would walk around the house and check off a list of things which could be purchased to make the home more green, presumably.

As you can see in the comments below ... "Green Irene has in fact approved by the Board of the DSA (Direct Sellers Association) as a full member. Additionally, we have been approved for Green America's (formerly CoOp America)Green Business Network and we are a proud member of the BBB." These steps demonstrate a commitment for quality business practices.

The EBC and the City of San Jose are establishing the first facility in the United States to focus on the design and development of alternative fuels and hybrid commercial vehicles that meet homeland security needs. The Electronic Transportation Development Center (ETDC) will be a place where established and early-stage companies will focus on the design, development, commercialization, and prototype manufacturing of alternate fuel and hybrid electric and gas commercial vehicles that also meet homeland security needs.

The Green Office

Description:

An office products industry where human and ecological health are the sole byproducts of operation. Provides a full selection of sustainable office products at great prices.

This is an online store providing a full range of office supplies, where they have verified each one as to 'green' qualities. This means recycled paper -- biodegradable cups -- products made from recycled content -- electronics which are energy star compliant. However not all is perfect in that I notice some of their electronics are labeled from the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition as 'failing'.

MSNBC Going Green network

I recently learned of the MSNBC Going Green network, which I'd never heard of. Sounds like an interesting possibility to access "content" plus gain some extra visibility for the blogging I do through this web site. I want to first take a look at the service as there is an interesting question here irregardless of whether this blog joins their 'network' or not. There is a need for people to have access to good quality news and information about "green" issues and sustainability, so does MSNBC or MSN have a good quality service?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/ -- This is MSNBC's home page, and looking over the top level navigation it's completely unclear how to get to "MSN Green" or whether they cover any environmental, green or sustainability news. U.S. News, nothing, World news, nothing, Business, nothing, Tech & Science, nothing. Uh?

http://www.msn.com/ - It does have a link, "Green Living", which goes to http://green.msn.com/ ... Presumably if I were to login in and create a custom home page it could include a block for Green Living news items from green.msn.com

I see they have supporting partners including: Conservation International, Environmental Defense Fund, Earth 911, Grist, StopGlobalWarming.org, Treehugger, The Daily Green

There's a set of links at the top for 'msn' leading to News, Lifestyle, Travel, etc, content and it appears there is "green" content among the regular content of their news & information site, and that these links assist the reader to view the green subset of the news they publish.

In general it looks pretty reasonable. It's interesting that some of the content they publish is coming from their partners.

Carol McLelland, What you need to know to find a green career

90% of finding a new job is navigating the inner landscape of hopes, dreams, fears, self sabotage, etc. Stay focused especially on the idea that possibilities abound. Stay in hope and momentum.

That point, staying in hope, possibilities, momentum, that's about being a good manifester.

Many have a question or block of needing to know where they're going before starting out. This is a way of blocking yourself and keeping yourself from starting out. She claims it's better to just start out, and that you don't have to have the journey worked out before you start. Instead the journey is taken one step at a time. The thing you're starting toward may not even exist at the time you start out.

Is your industry ready to hire you? Are you qualified for the industry you want to work in? What are the qualifications?
